Being a graduate assistant is indentured servitude EVEN IF YOU ARENT GETTING A PhD. I got waivers for more than one semester and each time I worked a ridiculous amount on top of course work. There is no reason for the system to work the way it does.
I can’t comprehend how a union is going to work when the entire membership is built to turn over in 2-3 years.
.@jamieson @erinmdurkin When I attended Columbia in the 80’s, they tried to crush a clerical workers union and now they are shafting graduate student workers. All this despite having an endowment larger than GDP of many countries. Plus Columbia’s prez is paid millions. Shameful.
