    App subscriptions sound great until users realise they have 100s of apps. I don’t know how well it scales. Devs can’t *all* make more money.

        @jamesthomson One thing - I assume subscription management UI will be much more obvious and robust in iOS10.

        @twinparent I hope so.

        @jamesthomson From Verge: The App Store will also have a revamped interface to make it "even easier for [users] to manage subscriptions “

        @twinparent I wonder about the transition though. As a dev, I wouldn’t want to force people to move to the new version / pricing.

        @jamesthomson Hhard to do it until you’re at the point where you’d do a paid new version anyway. Otherwise, TextExpander redux.

        @twinparent Well, exactly.

        @jamesthomson I wonder if you could do a parallel sub version. Customers either pay outright or $1/£1 (?) per year?

        @twinparent Yeah, I can see that might be the only way, but a new SKU loses all the placement and reviews.

        @jamesthomson: I fucking hate subscriptions.

        @waferbaby I’m not really a fan, but if the price is right.

        @waferbaby Me too! And I want to put it in my cupboard.

        @jamesthomson: But, how do you feel about it as an app developer, verses a user?

      6. James Thomson ‏@jamesthomson Jun 8

        @waferbaby Not sure. The promise of regular income is interesting, but I don’t think people will go for it.

        @jamesthomson unless there is a way to pay Apple, say $10 a month, shared over a dozen apps. Like Netflix for apps.

        @CraicDesign Because that streaming model works so well for artists :)

        @CraicDesign I’m not sure it will work for me either.

        @jamesthomson I feel like I’m already at the point where I can have more subs between blog memberships, Prime, Netflix, iTunes Match, etc.

        @jamesthomson And some point I just don’t have/want to give the money required each month for everything I like/use.

        @rmlewisuk That’s my worry, exactly.

        @jamesthomson @rmlewisuk Well, that just means people will hit a threshold, but they kind of already do?

        0 replies 0 retweets 0 likes
      5. James Thomson ‏@jamesthomson Jun 8

        @joesteel @rmlewisuk True, but with normal apps that you pay for once, you can keep using them.

        @jamesthomson @rmlewisuk Yeah, and it’s very vague what will happen with the optional “downgrades” and “sidegrades”.
