    One thing about “doing a Snow Leopard” - back then, it was *already* 2 years between big OS X releases, so we had ~4 without major changes.

        @jamesthomson and it was absolutely great - we could focus on improving our software rather than playing catchup with the latest fad.

        @milend Oh, totally. I just think people forget that we weren't on an annual cycle back then.

        @jamesthomson @milend I think mostly power users and developers care that much about the quality of software at Apple.

        @lucvandal @jamesthomson I think there's a lot of anger, alienation and disappointment within devs stemming from App Store policies.

        @lucvandal @jamesthomson and the ecosystem itself is being destroyed / transformed into something that has questionable long term value.

        @milend @jamesthomson Its just the accumulation of many annoyances+frustrations amongst developers but still sad to see Apple in that state.

        @lucvandal @jamesthomson Precisely, it just keeps on piling and piling and piling and at some point, people just snap.

        @jamesthomson I still think it's the boldest move any tech company has done in terms of software, especially as it cost $29

        @pilky It made a ton of sense, too.

        @jamesthomson Well yeah, and things weren't quite as bad back then in terms of speed and stability

        @pilky Agreed. Though I seem to remember it happened because Leopard wasn't exactly great :)

        @jamesthomson Keep in mind though, Snow Leopard did have new features.

        @jeffkibuule Not really a huge amount though, that was the point.

        @jamesthomson Snow Leopard had tons of developer features though, but less advertisable, not so marketing driven. Still very important.

        @jamesthomson like Debian. Now we are getting OS X releases on the pace and rate of change of Fedora.

        @brian_reiter And I don't think that's a good thing…

        @jamesthomson when you think about it in these terms, it’s amazing OS X works so well and upgrades are smooth. Fedora not so much.
