NEW: The conservative movement’s next big play for their power in the states is to “scare the hell out of Washington' with an unprecedented convention to rewrite the Constitution. And they're willing to play the long game to win. From @BrentGriffiths & me: businessinsider.com/constitutional

Let’s be 100% clear. If Republicans win control of the House, Senate and White House two years from now, they will pass a national abortion ban. And no matter where you live, no matter how pro-choice your state is, women and doctors will be locked up for practicing health care.

Or so people close to the president say.

“Beyond policy, Biden is unhappy about a pattern that has developed inside the West Wing. He makes a clear and succinct statement — only to have aides rush to explain that he actually meant something else.” nbcnews.com/politics/white

All I can say is, Chief Justice Roberts is going to have to work extra hard on his opinion concurring in the judgment if he wants to prevent the erosion of the court's institutional legitimacy!

If only WFB were still around to purge National Review from the conservative movement.
Quote Tweet
The conservatism of DeSantis and Abbott, of @benshapiro and @NRO, is perfectly recognizable. It’s not the American conservatism of Reagan to Romney (which may well prove an anomaly in the history of conservatism), it’s the European conservatism of the 1920s and early 1930s.

For argument's sake, suppose she used the wrong definition and it does qualify as a sanitation measure. Even then, the absence of a determination that it's necessary makes it illegitimate!

The government characterized the mask mandate as a "sanitation" measure. Mizelle held that it didn't fit the definition of "sanitation" (or any other type of measure authorized by the statute), and therefore was illegitimate.

"As of Tuesday, the agency hadn’t made a determination, officials said." The mandate had been scheduled to expire Monday anyway, but the CDC extended it for 15 days. Now we're told "the agency hadn't made a determination" that it was "necessary for public health."

Justice Department spokesman tells AP (in reporter's paraphrase) "the CDC had said it would continue to assess public health conditions, and if the agency determined a mandate was necessary for public health, the Justice Department would file an appeal."

But I try not to accuse people of being obviously wrong, dishonest, or just aiming to crowd please for saying something that I myself was saying up until recently. I also try to explain why I changed my mind.
P.S. Would love to hear why @paulkrugman changed his mind on this one.

The convoy protest, applauded by right wing media as a "freedom protest," is an economic and security issue now. The Ambassador Bridge link constitutes 28% of annual trade movement between US and Canada. Slash the tires, empty gas tanks, arrest the drivers, and move the trucks

The only effective way to undo the right wing’s Supreme Court power play is to unpack it by adding four justices. The conservative justices want us to bow respectfully before their radicalism. Democracy, justice & moderation demand that we not capitulate.

What the hell is Facebook doing? Banning ads for books about Reagan because some pathetic people complain? It reminds me of how Putin's trolls game the moderation system to get pro-Ukrainian & opposition content removed. twitter.com/bethanyshondar…

Two Central Valley middle school teachers talked publicly on the challenges of running a gay-straight alliance in a socially conservative community.
When their presentation was leaked, the district was thrown into turmoil — and their program shut down.
