MailChimp was a side-project for 6 years. Todoist was a side-project for 4 years. Basecamp took 2 years before it was paying their salaries. Maybe the rest of us shouldn't be in such a hurry.

You don't have a brand unless someone is willing to pay a price premium over a comparable product. Nike can open a hotel and you'd know what to expect. If Hyatt made a shoe, you'd have no idea what to expect. One of these two has a brand.

Would love to see this replicated in Australia - so much potential for creative futures through craft, art & design collabs.

Alongside the traditional 'design learning' canon, my students have been uncharacteristically at-ease diving into abstract thinking earlier and more frequently than previous years. Maybe I've improved as a teacher? Maybe I got a good batch of students? Maybe its both!

Four weeks in and a lot of ground covered! Very Interesting to note that student interest in 'design responsibility' for SOCIAL and ENVIRONMENTAL impact has really increased since I last stood in front of a classroom.

Nice read. Change doesn't start blank. Should you blow up your company OR renovate good bones?

People are great at recognizing the 1 hour meeting that could have been a 5 minute email, and *awful* at recognizing the 6 week email thread that could have been a 15 minute meeting.

Imagine if every developer, planner and designer was asked the question: Where do the Children Play? How different would our cities be?

While I'm lucky to deliver lectures and instigate design briefs, I learn so much each semester about myself and design through the fresh eyes of students and their own project directions.
