If you're uncertain how to calculate your own risk budget, I still highly recommend — the numbers may not be perfect, but it's localized and really useful for seeing how small changes can make a big difference in your safety.

Man, you couldn't pay me enough to unmask in public right now. I wanna spend my Covid risk budget on the friends and family who matter, not waste it huffing Sniffles McRando's All-You-Can-Cough Virus Buffet.

Spear is glorious! You really, really need to see it up close and in person: it glows! Beautiful, beautiful book that fits perfectly in the hand.

What Meg said. I know some big game companies that like to be viewed as progressive but still have "no side projects" policies, and it's bullshit. You're paying an artist to do a particular job, not purchasing their whole life. You want exclusivity, you better pay A LOT.

For me, being a Seattleite means quietly rejoicing at bad weather after a string of sunny days, so I can stop feeling guilty about staying inside. There are literally days when I get up, see the sun, and tell it, "Goddamn it, I have a JOB, okay?!"

When leaving myself notes on a manuscript, I always use "we." "We should change this," "we need to figure out X," etc. Talking to myself like a teammate helps me step back and treat my work the way I'd treat a colleague's: appreciating the good parts, helping fix the problems.

I write so many great tweets that I don't post. I don't post them because they would make things worse. Let's not make things worse just because we have a good tweet.

What's the funniest, happiest novel you've read recently? Not cynical humor—something that legitimately made your heart feel light.
