The Constitution's evolved in important ways. Elizabeth Warren endorsed abolishing the electoral college while speaking to a primarily black audience in Jackson, Miss. Their ancestors counted as three-fifths of a person until the 14th Amendment in 1868. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/paloma/daily-202/2019/03/20/daily-202-a-debate-over-abolishing-the-electoral-college-surprisingly-gins-up-the-base-in-both-parties/5c9116ee1b326b0f7f38f1d5/?utm_term=.928957f98897&wpisrc=nl_daily202&wpmm=1 …

Speaking of Warren, the founders also didn’t imagine women voting -- let alone running for president. The 19th Amendment didn’t guarantee suffrage until 1920.

But, but, but: It's discordant to watch Dems warn in apocalyptic terms that Trump's disregarding sacred norms & destroying the republic in one breath while calling for court packing, abolishing the electoral college, ending private insurance & paying out reparations in the next.

Dems wouldn't be calling for court packing if McConnell hadn't blown the entire process up to begin with.

So your pt just prior is key here. Founders didn't imagine lots of things about the modern world, so public discourse from candidates about how we need to change is a good thing; nothing remotely discordant about it. I don't even support these proposals but am happy to consider.

The private insurance industry is hardly a “sacred norm”. The for profit insurance industry is too expensive and it has actually killed people.

Must preserve those sacred norms, those utterly essential facets of our republic, that have existed since... [checks notes] ...the 1970s.

Yes, the Democrats could return to the previous norms voluntarily, but Gorsuch would still be sitting in Garland’s seat. The Democrats need to redress and move forward with fairness. The GOP aren’t paralyzed and wringing their hands about discordant messaging.

Discordant sure, but only if you disregard context, recent history, and long term trends. But ya sure, discordant, why not

Oh no not the private insurance industry. What kind of animal would want to make much needed reforms to a disastrous health insurance system?
