Important new Washington Post editorial: D.C.’s crime bill really could make the city more dangerous.
The city council will vote Tuesday on whether to override the mayor’s veto of a total rewrite of the criminal code.
We’re pleading with them not to.

Tom Emmer says at GOP leadership presser that the House is going to “get rid of Christmas trees.”
I assume he means legislation that includes lots of extraneous items and that this is not a declaration of war on Christmas.🎄

The Office of Congressional Ethics has been really nonpartisan in its inquiries. Since its founding, the OCE has actually referred more Democrats (52) than Republicans (50) to the Ethics Committee for further investigation. It’s a mistake to emasculate it.

Gutting the independent ethics watchdog as the first official act of the 118th Congress isn’t what Americans voted for in the midterms. We fear that tying the hands of the OCE, especially limiting the ability to hire staff, invites a new era of corruption.

If ever there was a time for an independent ethics watchdog, it’s in a Congress that includes George Santos (R-N.Y.).

Ironically, Republicans underperformed in the midterms because of the outsize influence of the same election-denying troublemakers who now hold Congress hostage.

About half the Republicans opposing Kevin McCarthy’s bid for speaker fund their campaigns through small, online contributions instead of counting on major donors and PACs. This makes it harder for leadership to corral them. Via :
