    I agree. When I had a team I made a point of being as open and transparent as possible. It’s not easy, but I trusted my team to make better decisions in return. For the most part, they did.

    The difference between good management and bad management is communication and transparency. Hiding critical information from your reports doesn't protect them, in fact, it hurts them.

    Me: the heating’s on? Dad: Hive says the heating is off! Me: The radiator is actually hot, the heating is definitely on. Dad: It’s not! Our radiator isn’t. Have you turned the thermostat off on yours? Me: 🤦🏻‍♂️ That’s not how this works. That’s not how any of this works.

    This feels like a questionable use of pupil data.

    In 2012, database access expanded who could get pupil level data (journalists, commercial businesses and individuals, charities, academic researchers) and why, broadly ‘research’ purposes. Like the Times ‘to pick interesting cases/groups of students’ 4/n

    Soft skills are SO important! I wish more L&D plans included a focus on soft skills development. We can’t address the technical skills gap in our industry without jointly focusing on skills like communication, facilitation, listening, etc.

    People in tech often worry about not being 'technical enough' BUT what we should worry about is being able to communicate effectively. I'm always astonished by the lack of 'soft skills' in our industry and they are SO important \end rant

    Unless I’m presenting or running a demo, I hate people watching me do anything - especially coding (something I do infrequently). For me, it’s the fear of my observer judging me or thinking “he’s done that wrong”. I know that’s ridiculous, but can’t help it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Why is it that so many people have a hard time coding in front of others? How do we end up viewing it as such an intimate activity? Why do we feel so exposed and vulnerable when others try to observe?
