In Japan, a cybercrime expert and citizen journalist who posted about internet trolls, calling them out, was stabbed to death by one of them this weekend. This is how it happened.

I want to thank the first responders for all their work today, and the many journalists who came to cover our tragedy with empathy and respect. I cant talk about those we've lost yet. The loss is unimaginable.

  11. If you're wondering why devote one full to female journalists: journalism like many fields, is still dominated by older white guys like myself. I'm Jewish-American and a Zen Buddhist priest, but still probably fall into white guy category. Women deserve more recognition.

  17. Fuck “thoughts and prayers”. I’d rather have gun control laws and body armor. Contrary to popular belief, Japan has guns—It’s just very difficult to get licensed to use them. They’re 122 million people here. We had less than 10 gun deaths last year.

The film came out great, I only hope that the production company & can re-version in the Japanese language so it can do a festival / screening run in Japan and make a real impact there. Fingers crossed!

  21. The vitriol spread in cyberspace is leaking into the real world. When people spend all their life online, they carry those grudges from their interactions into the real world. The internet is a hypodermic needle: it can inject poison or medicine but it’s puncturing reality.
