@jaffathecake a framework gives you a set of rules to follow. A library allows you to set your own rules. Both have benefits & disadvantages

@neneodonkor I really like Django as it's a framework that feels like it's built of libraries. -
@jaffathecake so does ya image describe one as better than the other? -
@neneodonkor I prefer libraries. Easier to reason about small units than one big one. Easier to deal with a library issue than a framework 1 -
@jaffathecake oh cool :). And what is Django about? -
@neneodonkor python web framework https://www.djangoproject.com/ -
@jaffathecake django looks like javascript -
@neneodonkor django isn't a language. It's a framework on top of python. - 3 more replies

@neneodonkor exactly, framework gives a set of rules that could be lifesavers in a large team as@brianmgonzalez pointed /cc@jaffathecake -
@dmtrsslvdr@brianmgonzalez@jaffathecake hmmm I kinda prefer libraries -
@neneodonkor@dmtrsslvdr@brianmgonzalez I don't mind frameworks that involve me from start to end (Django)… -
@neneodonkor@dmtrsslvdr@brianmgonzalez what I hate is when a framework won't let me do the performant thing, because it's not "the way" -
@jaffathecake@brianmgonzalez "the way" is good for a large team. a path is needed for a consistency, I prefer libraries for DRY communities -
@dmtrsslvdr@brianmgonzalez if "the way" gets in the way, it's the wrong way. -
@jaffathecake it's a really big discussion that I would like to continue but twitter is not proper could you share an email or something

@jaffathecake@smashingmag if the app is sufficiently complex, both pictures have the large number of components, but only one has docs -
@mrclay_org@smashingmag libraries don't have docs? -
@jaffathecake@smashingmag I'm saying there's no free lunch. Apps constructed "of libs" can't magically have fewer components -
@mrclay_org I don't think I gave that impression in the image. It's all about visibility. The path is the same.

@jaffathecake the library situation seems like least worst to me -
@triblondon@jaffathecake Agree with Andrew. There's an upfront investment, but the long term benefits are huge. -
@phuunet you may have misread@triblondon's tweet -
@jaffathecake@triblondon Oh. Yes indeed. Statement retracted-ish. They're tools. Meh. -
I like libraries, but I've seen low-level primitives be a problem in the hands of a less experienced team (i.e. It Depends™, shockingly)
-
I AM STILL FURIOUS

Haha, how the heck did this end up in my timeline? Oh
