As part of its ambitious “1619” inquiry into the legacy of slavery, @nytimes revives false 19th century revisionist history about the American founding, writes @timothysandefur https://reason.com/2019/08/21/the-founders-were-flawed-the-nation-is-imperfect-the-constitution-is-still-a-glorious-liberty-document/ … via @reason

Just saying something both irrelevant & true, & which the S.Ct has adjudicated-finding that the govt liable. The govt has paid the compensation the Court ordered, into a fund the tribe has refused to touch. Whether that's right or wrong, it's, well, both irrelevant & true.

It seems you know as little about the history of Mt Rushmore as you apparently do about the legacy of slavery.

Yes, really interesting. The piece says it is false to say the founders believed in racism - the very founders who literally “owned” black people because they were black and ensured race-based slavey was legal. The illogical leaps in this piece are astounding.

He lost me at “manufactured the myth of American white supremacy.” This was not and is not a myth. I might add that it was American white *male* supremacy, and the original documents tell that story. The equality of men they professed required compromise on race/gender issues.

And yet today, the principles expressed in the Constitution have near universal support while white supremacy, as well as race and gender discrimination, is almost universally condemned. Perhaps the value of its principles outlast their contemporary application?
