Lamont to propose millions for affordable housing construction, but no accompanying legislation to address CT's high housing costs. An increasing number of other states are addressing high housing costs and passing legislation. (28 states last year)

Local pushback in Wilton to wanting to tie transportation $ to affordable housing. Gov's spox: it's conceptual at this point, not a proposal. Local official then explains why state-owned land in Wilton a bad spot for affordable housing

"Integrating school districts w/o touching housing wouldn’t really solve the problem ... The people of Wilton don't have to be racist to benefit from an inherently racist system." Test: Will Wilton allow the proposed affordable housing project to open?

We’ve seen a lot of governors changing rules and policies because of stories coming out of our Local Reporting Network. We think it’s a big deal when our journalism makes a real-world impact, so we want to tell you about a few examples (THREAD) 👇

“Two people spoke in support of the group home, but they were shouted over by the crowd.” Simple rudeness and aggression at public meetings still shocks me somehow.

The irrational fear of a group home in Cromwell for 6 individuals generated a public forum that “lasted almost four hours. The gymnasium was at full capacity; the chairs and bleachers were all full, and people were standing on both sides of the room.”

Along the way, we've published some pretty great stories and built some pretty strong partnerships with newsrooms around the state. Because, let's be honest, getting stories out to a broad audience is really important. Read recent collaboration here:

Who's done a study on how much farther state housing subsidies (incl LIHTC, which is awarded by CHFA) would go in Connecticut if we legalized fourplexes everywhere and moderate density (say five stories) proximate to transit?
