It's amazing how much easier it is to revise a paper after letting it sit for months... or a year... Being farther from the paper helps me see what needs clarification or rewording, what needs to be removed, what's missing. #AcademicChatter

At some point it will be spring and I'll realize I have a ton of yard work and gardening to do, too, but right now everything is covered in snow, the baby is napping, and my 3yo is cutting paper into tiny pieces so I'm planning all sorts of things.

I do feel like I may be juggling too many potential projects... but on the other hand, if I can't find any picture books about kids who homeschool/unschool, shouldn't I write & draw one myself?

I'm also considering doing some portrait photography on the side. Because ... why not? Since it won't be my main gig, it'll be fine if only a couple people hire me for it a year. I like taking photos of people and kids.

I'm making a page for my personal site about services I can offer as a consultant. It's an ecclectic list. Technical stuff, interaction design, voice acting, graphic design & illustration, writing... basically stuff I wouldn't mind doing more of, even if I'm not an "expert".

I'm actively working on constructing my post-PhD life. I was a student for so many years! Now: Trying new things, rediscovering hobbies, reading books, writing, coming up with projects, watching for opportunities...

Anyway - I'm told the videos will be online in 6-8 weeks! Will share as soon as it's up!

I was asked what one of the most challenging things was about prepping my talk. And I said it was picking my outfit. Which is true - my kids watched me try on clothes for literally more than an hour...

I haven't been on an actual stage in quite a while. Academic presentations only sort of count. I remembered things I learned doing theater as a kid about position, gaze, and gesture. Fun to see another speaker's run through, too. Made me think about pacing in stories.

Today was the #TEDx #tedxcda dress rehearsal! Only messed up a few times when I started coughing... at least I'm almost over this cold. Nothing more tea can't solve, right? Tomorrow, my talk is first. Which I'm thrilled about, because I like mornings and then I'm done!
