Not a housing expert, but gonna go out on a not-very-dangerous limb here to say that these data on eviction filings bode poorly for low-wage BIPOC workers’ labor market mobility prospects.

Eviction filings are above historical average in half of the cities that @evictionlab is tracking. Between 2/27 and 3/26—the most recent four-week period for which we have complete data—filings were >100% of normal in 14 cities. They were >150% of normal in four.

The report talks about how to funnel the tax revenue to child care workers in centers and homes. This table below the types of raises that are being contemplated, though. A teacher with a BA could see almost $30k more a year. A caregiver with HS degree could get $12k more.

My presentation highlights business case for supporting childcare, from view of enlightened self-interest. This support yields short and long-term benefits, both for individual business & business community. Childcare IS a key part of the local business climate.

Google search trends over the last year for "Great Resignation" and "Great Upgrade" — two terms for the recent surge in quits and job moves. Search interest peaked in late October, while the quit rate peaked in November & December. Searches most intense in DC, MA, MD, CO & CT.

From : 65% of Black workers are STARs (skilled through alternate routes). Ending the reification of degrees over skills in hiring/promotion is part of the path toward an equitable #futureofwork, as is tackling other forms of persistent quiet (+ not-so-quiet) racism.

Some personal news: Spent my AM trying to post a child/doggo-care job on Care.com after 2+ years of struggling to stay afloat w/o help, system keeps crashing when I try to pay, feels like a metaphor for a particular version of pandemic-era working motherhood.
