Most of Zoom’s engineering team is based in China. Conducting sensitive conversations on a platform vulnerable to data collection by the CCP should give pause to those concerned with protecting company or government secrets.https://twitter.com/random_walker/status/1244987617676050434 …

Alarming. What video platform is recommended for better privacy for meetings and webinars?

I’ve gotten used to using Google Hangouts, mainly because it’s very easy to add a video conference Hangout link in gmail calendar invites and it’s also very secure.pic.twitter.com/q0zCnfpzlE

Zoom achieved FedRAMP approval last year after being sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security. Do you think FedRAMP's security and risk assessment is deficient, or if not, why do you think they're not concerned?

Excellent questions worthy of probing. Folks on the Senate committees for Intel, Technology and Foreign Relations should look into this when we get passed the worst of this crisis. Cc: @MarkWarner, @CoryBooker, @SenBlumenthal, @KamalaHarris

Most of the hardware manufacturering teams for consumer electronics, such as phones & laptops, are also based in China. Hardware vulnerabilities can be as bad or worse than software vulnerabilities. From this standpoint, Zoom is no more dangerous than most products we use daily.

One risk doesn’t inoculate another. Easy, deniable & less traceable to compromise a software platform like Zoom, than installing backdoors in hardware. Big co’s also typically require employees to set up security systems on company devices precisely to prevent compromisespic.twitter.com/V2ImELwhnO

Speculation motivated by fear unnecessarily stokes racism or worse promotes a closed economy. We have both the intelligence and leadership to surpass the CCP, especially in our publicly traded companies who have faced a decade of scrutiny leading up to going public.

Implying it’s racist to scrutinize the security of our information infrastructure is quite the somersault.

That’s very troubling— they’re likely not the only government doing this.
