This is going to be a very simple prototype scene so performance isn’t a priority/issue just yet but you are right in that there is definitely a lot of custom ways you could create fog which would run better.

Wouldn't rendering everything as a transparent object spend a fortune on overdraw? (Not to mention run into sorting issues). I never thought fog was that expensive

Actual fog would be much cheaper than making everything alpha, plus the tons of other side effects that would create..

If you instead fade the entire color to the background color it won't use alpha and will perform better. That would be the same as enabling fog set to the background color though.

This is true but there is another effect I want to try which requires it to be transparent. As I said previously it’s a fast way of faking fog as URP doesn’t have a built in solution just yet
