      my take is more that he's competition, channeling all the same shit into hyperindividualism instead of their fucked up version of collectivism

      Spencer has pretensions to being a serious academic (dissertation about how adorno secretly agreed with the nazis) so he probably just wants to defend the concept of Close Reading provided that the results are insane and sadistic

      tbh I don't think Spencer has much to lose here. I don't think people follow him because he's charming or convincing or whatever. he doesn't have compelling logic, other nazis follow him because they have a lust for power and they're opportunists. imo.
