One thing leftist reactions to the Rittenhouse trial hint at is the limits of ACAB sentiment. Leftists have never sought consistency (beyond "virtue") between their selective anarchism and authoritarianism, but this case seems to brush up against the contradiction.

My previous reply was too broadly dismissive of appellate courts: I don't think you can buy most courts, but I do think they are easily spooked and extremely hesitant to intervene in broad social phenomena. The district judge needs to seriously consider a mistrial with prejudice.
