As someone who uses a pickup for work almost every single day, most of what's said here is correct. They really are overpriced status symbols that prioritize aesthetics and family use over practical functionality.https://twitter.com/PostCultRev/status/1419689420714700805?s=20 …

I have an (old, beat up) F150 V6 and I use it for landscaping, hauling everything from a couple dozen #3 pots to huge palms. I really wouldn't gain anything from a V8 and a supercab would actively make it worse for the work I do.

Additionally the V8s break down more and are more expensive to fix when they do. Having a smaller engine doesn't hinder performance in my line of work and extends the lifetime of the vehicle. But everyone wants the big engine so they can have more power they'll never use.

There's nothing inherently wrong with buying a truck to be a big dick macho man. If it created a big used market of highly-functional work vehicles it would even be a net good. But instead people buy family limos that cost a million bucks even with 150k miles. It sucks.

the supercab thing wouldn't even be an issue if Big Nanny State Government still let you drive around town with the kids sitting in the bed
