Finished mgs2 It was awesome. I don't think it's possible to tell 50k people you're playing mgs2 for the first time and not be a little spoiled but I'd say at least 90% of the many many twists were a surprise.

Gameplay was basically better mgs1. Not much to say there except that it was significantly less frustrating.

I loved the roller coaster ride of the story. The entire end hour was just a blast. That said I think its reach exceeded its grasp at certain points. Hard for it not to with so many things going on tbh.

The meta stuff was fun and cheeky and the whole "it's mgs1 deconstructed" angle was very cool, but I think there's maybe a tiiiiiny bit of "it's complicated and meta so it's deep" going on.

When it actually delves into the philosophies it's touching on it doesn't actually have much to say outside of presenting concepts in a neat way.

But also it's like... a videogame? So even touching on the themes it touches on is pretty noteworthy. And at the end of the day the climactic hour or so was super gripping and awesome.

The foresight it has regarding memes and information warfare is pretty incredible. It was made right as the dot com bubble was popping, people did not know what the future of online communications would look like.

Well “memes” he wasn’t explicitly talking about cat images with “I can haz cheeseburger” Kojima meant ideas that can be taught. It’s literally a future quote from a villain in Revengance. “They are the culture, they are everything we pass on.”

It wouldn't surprise me if MGS actually had a hand in pictorial jokes being called "memes."

Id say yes and no. Simply because MGR came out during the Era of Trollface and funny Cat images with text and they were called memes then, but it likely help push the idea of memes themselves into the culture and their own subcultures making them a meme within a meme.
