Finished mgs2 It was awesome. I don't think it's possible to tell 50k people you're playing mgs2 for the first time and not be a little spoiled but I'd say at least 90% of the many many twists were a surprise.

Gameplay was basically better mgs1. Not much to say there except that it was significantly less frustrating.

I loved the roller coaster ride of the story. The entire end hour was just a blast. That said I think its reach exceeded its grasp at certain points. Hard for it not to with so many things going on tbh.

The meta stuff was fun and cheeky and the whole "it's mgs1 deconstructed" angle was very cool, but I think there's maybe a tiiiiiny bit of "it's complicated and meta so it's deep" going on.

When it actually delves into the philosophies it's touching on it doesn't actually have much to say outside of presenting concepts in a neat way.

But also it's like... a videogame? So even touching on the themes it touches on is pretty noteworthy. And at the end of the day the climactic hour or so was super gripping and awesome.

You're not playing mgs2 if your last session doesn't start with otacon's big tragedy and end five hours later, ideally well after midnight
