I think the "teaching CRT" debate runs the risk of overvaluing education as indoctrination. There's a bunch of shit we were taught as kids that we don't believe, or that we know is wrong. US citizens mostly grow up saying the Pledge of Allegiance, but everyone hates the feds.

You can say critical race theory is abusive and racist and yes, sure, that's kinda par for the course. The actual force that it carries in practice is more ambiguous. The biggest faux pas you can make is not to contradict it but to try and enforce it on its own terms.

There's a bunch of attendant tragedies to teaching racial discrimination, but putting the burden of ideological maintenance on teachers projects power onto them that they don't necessarily have. If they're supposed to prepare students for entry into the working world, well...
