Looks like Israel/Palestine has calmed down for now. The Israeli intl PR machine is stumbling and, quelle surprise, the IDF didn't put ground troops anywhere near the inhabited area of Gaza. They can't actually take the city without simply killing every living person there.

Israel doesn't have a tenable position long-term, before or after what just went down. Neither they nor "Palestine" have an endgame.

I'm pretty sure public attitudes have been shifting since Mavi Marmara, but the biggest support Israel has had for fifty years is lockstep congressional consensus which just broke.

The US technically has massive leverage against Israel. Their next best ally is Germany, and after Germany it's nobody. China will treat them as rivals, which they can't stand. Even Israeli "democracy" is of a lower order than whether the US decides law applies to Israel.
