Looks like Israel/Palestine has calmed down for now. The Israeli intl PR machine is stumbling and, quelle surprise, the IDF didn't put ground troops anywhere near the inhabited area of Gaza. They can't actually take the city without simply killing every living person there.

Biden doesn't seem like he cares one way or the other about Israel. They're a long-time client of his and vice versa but is Netanyahu even bothering to talk directly to him? Daily, like he talked to Obama? I wouldn't. Talk to Blinken or the ambassador.

Besides the usual security council vetoes, it's basically impossible to determine what the US was doing the entire time. This in no small part because the organ that sets the policy is totally opaque. With Kushner everyone knew the score. He's stupid and he loves Israel.

Israel is suffering PR losses with open racial conflict in the street, including high-visibility videos of Jews trashing Arab businesses. Since Israel's only diplomatic relationship worth a damn is the US, it's tough to tell if shifting public and congressional attitudes...

Are making a dent in the process. As usual, people accuse Bibi of using war to shore up support. He does actually kinda need it but I'm not convinced he can realistically do enough killing to satisfy the large radical right in Israel. Or that it even works in the first place.

It feels more like the government stumbled ass-backwards into a major escalation it couldn't politically *escape* from. Maybe at some point Israeli Jews are just gonna have to content themselves with the same thing their counterparts in the US get: formal political equality.
