There's still a bunch of pissed-off young Sunnis, an Iraqi army with unknown morale, and a bunch of weapons depots, right? I'm not so sure you don't still end up with an ISIS problem. And how would the US have responded to that? Just arm them all like Syria and Iran/Iraq?
