I think liberals who are so morally retxrded they think Trumpish GOP is more authoritarian, or indeed worse in any important way, than Bush's GOP, is the truly disturbing issue here and one that has caused me to reassess many thingshttps://twitter.com/HeerJeet/status/1390853147963183107 …

I honestly have no idea what he's even referring to. The voter ID laws Republicans have been pushing halfheartedly for decades?

He's probably referring to, for example, the rejection of democracy evidenced by the election fraud hoax and subsequent events. You'll see similar post-left figures like Tinkzorg openly championing that aspect. Bush was obviously worse in a utilitarian sense though.

Even if I had your confidence in US election results, I don't know if I would describe the reaction to 2020 as "authoritarian." State legislatures have been relatively sheepish in their response and the national party has pretended not to notice.

The fact that it was even on the table was Jeet's "authoritarian turn". If it doesn't count until they actually overturn a democratic election, then it won't count until it's too late.

Hey, if this is a new thing the new thing is that it's the voters insisting and not the party.

Maybe it is the voters. It's certainly not Mitch Connell and Jeb Bush, but then again no one said it was.
