Your immune system is more likely to notice infected cells than stray viral particles considering cells are orders of magnitude larger. It mainly "sees" the virus when it comes back attached to antibodies.

Live viral vaccines also instruct your cells to make things. Several of these appear to be routine. These viruses will still culture in your system, but they're bred for low pathogenicity.
