The right loses every cultural battle it engages in. They spectacularly lost the battle over homosexuality, they're losing on religion, (US is rapidly secularizing at a rate of 10% a generation), next they will lose on the trans issue, and they will lose against wokeness.
Religion was largely an own goal too. The left didn't force evangelicals to hitch their wagon to W.
Honestly, I don't really understand the issue well enough to diagnose it. But sure, I can't imagine the naked partisanship and politicization of religion helped.
Very common form of secularization process: 1) religious establishment feels threatened and attaches itself to RW politics 2) Rightoids spectacularly discredit themselves through some brutal injustice or other 3) religion is discredited by association, religiosity collapses.
