Rewatching Midsommar, I actually really appreciate it now. It indulges in its genre and the exploitation inherent to it much more than Aster’s previous film which was all “been there done that” illusions to 70’s psychological artsy horror dramas.

It's somehow both timeless and timely. Not exactly a joy to watch but it has effective levity in a way Hereditary didn't (smash cut to the gigantic Tom and Jerry mallet, "be back later, she's gonna show me.") But most of all it's a movie about a stupid bitch who ruins everything.
The director's cut is worse than theatrical because it's fairer to Dani and harsher on her bf. He should be kinda lame rather than almost villainous, it works better with that ambiguity.
