Maybe the one genre that really belongs to the 00s is pop punk, American Idiot and The Black Parade on either side of Hurricane Katrina

I mean you already had the mr t experience, descendants, bad religion, Rancid, etc in the 90’s. By the oughts pop punk was already a bunch of retreads

Not quite the same situation as Lady Gaga or QOTSA who were playing on genres and artists that had huge success decades prior. Green Day wasn't reviving Bad Religion (they had to be founded around the same time, right?) they were the last gasp of rock guitar in mass-market music.
