This debate is truly painful. The problem to be addressed is 1.5 generations of college graduates with no skills who have been subject to decades of perverse selection for sales aptitude and literally nothing else, for whom proletarianizing is not currently an option.

The goal should be establishing some kind of life path for this surplus population. Can we support them all on 60k/y state/federal thought-police jobs? Seems unlikely. Would industrial policy help? I dunno, would you hire a 35 year old with no experience as a factory worker?

The current solution seems to be we give the meanest, dumbest five percent of them six-figure NGO jobs burning down auto parts stores on behalf of the DNC-Silicon Valley-Industrial complex and the rest get to help burn stuff down and eat kratom until they give up breathing.
