So does this invalidate estimates of spread? If so, has it been higher or lower than estimated? Or does a positive mean likely immunity? Or has this kind of test only been applied to determine cause of death & mortality rates? Sorry! I’m hopelessly dumb about immunology.

It just means that testing positive a month after symptoms start doesn't mean you're still transmissible.

This test has been used to determine whether or not someone is still 'sick,' but it pings hot in all kinds of unlikely contexts - surfaces, solid waste, etc. It's unclear if providers and patients know that since they often wait for two negative results to clear someone.
