Lucky for him, holding public office is not needed for engagement in society.
The ability to run for office and win if elected is a fundamental part of citizenship in a democracy. The legislature of Kansas did not disqualify him from running based on any conduct in his past.

Was he forced to resign? Was he arrested for attempting to run for office? I'm all for redemption stories, but public office should be at the end of that journey, not the beginning.
