It should be more distressing than it is that the substance of allegations can be totally altered before it reaches us. We should not accept being lied to just because we trust ourselves to mentally adjust the perceived seriousness based on the tenor of a secondhand report.
Not an ~educator~ but I assume the normal undertone of the ethical rule is "don't fuck a student who's going to turn around and rat you out" and the woke read the entire ethical rulebook as "ensure nobody will believe a student with an allegation against you"
