Some younger Millennials seem to be under the impression that Fordism was just humming along in the 90s and no one ever saw their job disappear overnight. What distinguished 08/09 from previous downturns was that it impacted many more professional class aspirants.
This was a key contradiction in Dilbert as well. The nameless corp in the comic was constantly laying people off but never closed its doors or downsized members of the main cast
