Is COVID-19 a weird disease, or is it just that we’re paying enough attention to notice the weirdness for once? I mean the flu can cause out-of-control inflammation and organ failure too. Old people die from it, and young people get sleep paralysis demons. That’s pretty weird.

To my understanding a lot of the stuff c19 does is also common with influenza, yeah. We kinda suppress just how serious seasonal flu is because eradicating it isn't possible yet

I lowkey suspect this is a pretty regular thing in the medical field. There’s a lot of stuff they just don’t want to know because it would make things more difficult for everybody, so they kind of stick their heads in the sand.

The incentives are fucked at every level, as we saw early on in March and April when hospitals were refusing to acknowledge they were even treating corona patients. I suspect this led to Swine Flu 09 looking way less serious than it was
