Oh, stuff like Deaf Culture is definitely not new but also something totally different than what I'm talking about.
Deaf culture is totally insane but it at least has the bona fides of arising out of history of social isolation and alienation rather than something people heard about on the computer.
i don't want to make this comparision because nobody involved will like it, but i see crossover with stuff like this and "incel"-adjacent spaces, where you end up with cultish groups which provide comfort but discourage self improvement and shun people who want to leave
