      3/ Journalism was screwed before this stuff emerged, and the structural collapse of everything has caused and exacerbated all sorts of intranewsroom culture wars and grievances, but this is real bad, that Times staffers don't see how deeply unjournalistic this is. We're boned.

      4/ What NYT leadership should do is make a strong, assertive statement that the idea of sensitivity reads runs counter to so many key tenets of journalistic independence that the idea is absolutely off the table. Won't happen because anyone saying so aloud risks being ousted.
