How long can it survive on surfaces in an infectious state, if surface infection is indeed a major risk? We don't actually know that. It's detectable days later but that doesn't mean it's virulent.

If you're exposed to people all day, eg in retail, all you need is enough clean masks to cover the shift and either a face shield or eyeglasses. Going to a store or salon, a mask alone is plenty, and n95 is not required. Homemade masks catch enough to substantially reduce R0.

If you reduce R0, you also reduce viral load and the severity of each individual infection. The problem with laundry lists like these is that nobody is going to do this stuff at any kind of scale.

For the average person it may not take much more than a bandana around the face to stop the outbreak.

fomite transmission is extremely low. All the stuff about large droplets was bullshit. It’s airborne and contracted from prolonged exposure in close contact
-
From my understanding droplet and airborne transmission are basically a spectrum but yeah most people aren't getting it from being sneezed on directly, it's from talking or breathing.

Regardless of anyone's "take" on the virus in general, the reaction is the biggest mass hysteria event in history. This pandemic is extremely similar in lethality to the 1957 pandemic in the US, during which we did not react this way. https://twitter.com/BallouxFrancois/status/1284513419454971905?s=19 …

There's some sketchy info in that thread too, though. In particular we don't know the asymptomatic rate and 75% is a very high estimate.https://twitter.com/diseaseecology/status/1284527036518690822 …
