Hate AOC and all but she isn't incorrect here. The spike in crime is probably far more to do with material conditions than something magical and ideological in the air.
It's a spike in violent crime, though. Theft hasn't increased. More plausible explanation: rising tensions between the police and the populace have caused people to take things into their own hands as well as reducing police presence in high-risk neighborhoods.

I don't think Protests have a more plausible connection to rise in violent crime than Poverty. The PMC's love to protest and riot, crime is usually committed by the Lumpen/Proletariats in financial destitution.
