No joke, I observed these dynamics as early as first grade, including in non-selective public schools. These kids' boomer parents must have taught them to act like this but they had no idea what it was leading to

We scared the shit out of our teachers and they told us so, many times. An argument at 10 AM could rope in the entire third grade class by recess and create a mob that necessitated an all-hands assembly. Of course the "zero tolerance" policies remained non-negotiable.

These policies were basically an abdication of responsibility, the equivalent of the W-era regulations that permitted waterboarding. Endless epistemic violence was permitted just as long as no administrator ended up liable for anything. They raised a generation of torturers.
