We have many historical examples of communities "finding" imaginary child sex dungeons. Very few have been real, none have been commercial beyond a very petty local scale and none to my knowledge have been under direct police protection. Maybe hold your horses.

So, the alchemy that's being done here is important. Nobody will ever admit they think this way, but this is what it's about: When your politics comes into conflict with the beliefs of the locals, let alone the facts on the ground, threaten their children with shadow puppets.

If the locals fear criminals more than the police, we must bring across the reality that the police are the true criminals, even if it requires a kind of shorthand. Surely something like this is happening somewhere, after all.
