> the moral panic that has erupted in the past several weeks Past several weeks is overly modest. The project is years in the making and btw is fully compatible with the politics of the vast majority of 'radical left,' 'anti-imperialist' types as much as with the DNC

The correction most anti-imperialists want to make is that the crucial monad and site of racialization is the state and not the individual. It plays out the same except the US, Israel, NATO etc are 'white' and 'western' whereas China, NK, Iran etc are racialized victim states.

And yet they didn't. The neocons lost the zeitgeist resoundingly after Iraq and Katrina. Their heyday was very brief and they are no longer a force in politics. Routine spectacles re Iran and VZ are about shoring up the status quo ante.

There was a coup in Venezuela as well. And guess what? When it failed, the US did not use it as a pretext for invasion. They take advantage of local instability to harass the remaining nominally leftish countries but they have no desire to go to war.
