It seems like SARS should have taken out hundreds of millions of people if this is true. Guessing that, as with "airborne spread," there's a continuum being elided into a binary.
Sure, there's a difference between "spreads when you think it's the beginning of a head cold" and "spreads while you set a personal marathon record" but there's also a difference between both and "only spreads once you need to be hospitalized"
