I have a novelistic interest in intra-elite struggles for precedence and a weaker interest in the amelioration of social problems. I am not especially political; I am interested in how politics impinges on the inner life and status games of educated elites.
If you mean the 21st century there have been very few great novels at all so far, 2666 arguably makes a stark contrast between the realm of ideas and the world "on the ground"
