I don't think that's necessarily the implication. It's a matter of public record that at least two SARS outbreaks originated in labs where workers became infected. This lab was handling and indexing bat coronaviruses. Screening for symptoms doesn't contain c19, unlike SARS.

If this were the case, they'd have known about the outbreak A LOT sooner and act A LOT sooner, no? Furthermore it would really take a conspiracy of epic proportions to cover this up, considering they've already studied this very possibly extensively.

In this scenario the CCP would know early on where it originated, but not what the disease does. Direct evidence is long gone either way since they apparently destroyed all the animals at the market and even if they hadn't it might not have been there when they looked.
