So this thing was sitting in bats already fully armed for battle with a human system? Seems remote considering the general lack of contact between wild bats and humans.

Viruses do jump from bats to people. It is possible that it wasn't fully ready to jump to people but found the ability to either in a lab worker or after biohazard was improperly disposed of. I think it is highly unlikely that the CDCC/WIV was uninvolved, even accidentally.
