You know what they also sell in wet markets? Ferrets. So either way this fun little experiment was going on with some mammal constantly exposed to bat coronavirus until it adapted to transmit between them.

As far as I know there's no evidence yet for an intermediary between bats and humans although there isn't evidence that excludes it. The intermediate host was a way to explain why it broke out in the market that doesn't sell bats next to the lab that studies bat viruses.
