Democrats clearly should've taken coronavirus "more seriously" in January-February but I'm not aware of any prominent Democrat who was dismissing concerns around the virus as a hysterical hoax during that timeframe

China put 750 million people on movement restriction of one kind or another and an entire province on lockdown. Lots of people were taking it seriously, just not in DC or on TV.

WHO was still saying person to person transmission did not happen in mid January. Pelosi was complaining about Trump shutting off China travel at end of January. Travel in China not nearly as much as in US or Europe.

The WHO said no such thing. They declared it a public health emergency of international concern. WHO has its own issues but it did not fail to relay the seriousness of the threat nor was the administration truly caught off guard.
